Elevate the style and boost the square footage of your entire home by renovating your basement.
The home owner was tired of fighting for a parking space on the street and therefore decided to have a new garage added onto his existing bungalow home. There was about 1500 sq. feet to take advantage of since the basement had never been built into living space. Once he evaluated the cost for a new garage, he decided to add an apartment in the basement as the only way to justify the cost.
Included in the final design was a new garage, laundry area for the upstairs unit, a staircase from the garage leading to the upstairs and the addition of a beautiful and spacious 850 sq. foot, one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. A lot of pride went into the selection of all of the fixtures and finish materials, giving the new space the quality needed to balance with the high level of craftsmanship in the existing home.
Being that the house was originally built in 1910, the project gained a lot of attention from its neighbors. After seeing the project complete, the home owner believes it is proof that “even a historic home can be tastefully updated for modern use without degrading its historic value”.
Much time was invested into this project, but in the end, after all was said and done, this project, that seemed destined to fail, was a great success!
